Dracula - General Discussion [Sep. 15th, 2004|08:42 am]
Pulp Fusion Book Club
What were people's general impressions of the book?

I was surprised at the structure of the book, being entirely constructed of correspondence and journals. It was so cool!

I was also really impressed with how real and comprehensive it felt. I watched the Francis Ford Coppolla version of the movie last night, which is reasonable true to the book. It really does make for a gripping story (and go Gary Oldman!!!)

I thought it was really interested to take the conventional horror that we are used to but to get a sense of how it fitted into a society of time past. The implications are interesting and it makes you wonder what would have happened had it not been for Dr Van Helsing... I think London would have had a great deal less blood in it!

I really enjoyed the style of the book, with the journals and stuff. It's a great way to see how they really felt about things, and you can imagine what things *really* were like, but see how the person writing chose to see it themselves.

Van Helsing made all the difference! London would have been a veeeery different place without him.
